Greetings from the North Country!
I just wanted to send an update to let everyone know how things have been going with my career/location transition. I’m sorry I haven’t sent news earlier; I’ve been real lousy about responding to everyone’s caring emails, which I apologize for.
Overall, things have been going very well. My career transition has been an overwhelming success so far. As you all know, I’m working as a Financial Adviser for MetLife, back in my hometown area of Malone NY. My business has been growing, and I’m on the fast track to a very successful and lucrative career (or so I hope). I’m definitely working long hours, and stay unbelievable busy, but the payoff has been high, and overall, I’d say the new job is everything I had expected. On a daily basis, I meet with new and existing clients to develop financial strategies. Our product line is huge (Whole Life Insurance, Term Life Insurance, Universal Life Insurance, Variable Universal Life Insurance, Fixed and Variable Annuities, Mutual Funds, Disability Income Insurance, Estate Conservation Strategies, Education Funding Strategies, Health Insurance, IRA Consolidation/Rollovers, Long-Term Care Insurance, Mortgage Protection (through life insurance and disability income, insurance), Lump Sum Pension Distribution, Medicare Supplement Coverage, Pension Payout Alternatives, Pension Transfer/Rollovers, Tax Sheltered Annuities, 403(b) Plans, ETC), but I’m learning quick, and am doing great things for local families.
With all this going on, I’m doing my best to keep up with my family commitments and organizational involvements. I’ve already affiliated with my local Masonic Lodge, and look forward to providing them with some much need assistance.
Laura & Tommy are doing well too. Laura is still managing to be a “stay-at-home” Mom, which she is finding to be challenging at times J, but at least she doesn’t have to sit in belt-way traffic anymore! Nevertheless, she’s thinking of going back to work again already—not so much for financial reasons as for her sanity. Tommy really loves it up here. He meets new cousins daily it seems, and loves playing in the dirt, and being an all around country boy. He really loves the snow---yes, snow---and that there is plenty of up here.
When we left, most of you knew that we were planning on building a house. The planning continued for a few weeks after we got up here, but we have since halted our planning. A few days before our closing was to take place, and construction was to begin, Laura and I ran across an old Historic home right in the village of Malone. It was love at first sight, and at the 13th hour, we shit-canned our plans to build and put a contract on the existing house. I know, kind of rash huh? Anyhow, I think we’ll be much more happy this way. First off, there’ll be none of the headaches that go along with building. Secondly, this is definitely the house for us; very centrally located, beautiful wood-work throughout, and a strong historic tie to the local community. We’ll be closing and moving in, on January 3rd. The house was built in 1830—yes, 1830, and was owned by civil war Col Frederick Weed, who ended up donating much of his land to the village, which is now populated with other historic Victorian homes. The history goes on, but I won’t bore you with that for now. The house sits on a wonderfully landscaped ½ acre lot, complete with fish pond, tree house, berry bushes, and gigantic sugar maples. The two car garage was originally a carriage house. The house itself is a whopping 3,600 square feet, with 5 bedrooms, three baths, two fireplaces, hardwood flooring throughout, and two large porches (one in the front, and one off from the side). Best thing about the house is it has a large apartment on the back end of it, which Laura is likely going to turn in to a home day-care. We had a good home inspection done and the house is in fine shape, so we shouldn’t have to worry about owing a money pit. I plan on putting in a home office on the first floor, which will make my job considerably easier. I won’t tell you what we paid for the house because I don’t want to hear any whining J.
Until we get in to the house, we continue to live with family, which has been stimulating to say the least J, nevertheless, we appreciate the support we have been given.
I hope things are well (and no doubt warmer) down south. We look forward to making a trip back to visit as soon as it’s feasible. I’m planning on putting together an Adirondack weekend excursion sometime next fall, so if anyone is interested, let me know.
Have a great Christmas!
Dave & Laura
P.S., Chuck, what’s Donnie’s email?
